VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) was founded in 1965 as a national service program to fight poverty in America. In 1993, VISTA was incorporated into the AmeriCorps network of programs. And in 2016, AmeriCorps St Louis added three new VISTAs to our team!

Why did you join: To become a part of a team of dedicated and passionate individuals who actively work towards improving the community.
Future Plans: Attend grad school and pursue a career in the mental health field
Hobbies: Podcasts, learning languages, traveling, cooking, exploring St. Louis, and staying active

 

Mariya Fedorets VISTAName: Mariya Fedorets

Place of Birth/Hometown: Kremenchuk, Ukraine/ New York City
Education: B.A in Sociology from The City College of New York
Why did you join: I believe that volunteering is important and I hope that after this year I will have a clearer vision for my future.
Future Plans: Getting a driver’s license, meeting a sloth, and hopefully competing on the Amazing Race.
Hobbies: Playing bar trivia, traveling to nearby cities, scrapbooking, and finding great deals.

Why did you join: I joined AmeriCorps because I’ve always liked helping people, and I feel I am unusually suited for the position that I was offered.
Future plans: I plan to start a general entertainment business in the near future.
Hobbies: Video games, expressive writing, music appreciation and production, comedy, general mechanics, computers, and food.
