Why did you join: I need a big change/new adventure in my life. I want my job to mean something and I want to try something completely different. The Emergency Response Team was the perfect fit. I’m hoping it will lead to many more adventures (maybe even a career).
Future Plans: Make a positive impact on at least one person’s life, visit all 7 continents (4 down so far!), be happy and fulfilled – ideally, find a job that contributes to this.

Why did you join: To give back to the community full time, to help and appreciate people who impact my life in some way (but aren’t necessarily in my life – people I don’t know or see).
Future Plans: Do something that combines my interests in community development, conservation, and ecological restoration.

Why did you join: I want to serve with AmeriCorps because I believe that I have a moral duty to help others and to protect the environment. As an individual this is a very daunting task; however, with the framework and support of AmeriCorps it is easier to see the path to accomplish these goals.
Future plans: My future goals are to pursue wildland fire fighting and to spend as much time as possible outside. I would like to live in a place that allows me to pursue a career in fire and conservation, while also growing as an outdoorsman.
Hobbies: I love anything outdoors and I spend most of my time climbing, specifically bouldering. I also enjoy hiking, fishing, and when boulders are buried in snow, snowboarding.

Why did you join: I do like adventure, and simply put, I love helping people. It also helps me to look at things from a different perspective and to learn new things.

Why did you join: I want to serve through AmeriCorps in order to help those affected by disasters and conserve America’s wildland. In addition, I hope to grow as a person by putting myself through stressful and physically demanding situations.
Future plans: In the short term I hope to continue to pursue volunteer and teaching opportunities at home and abroad. Eventually, I aim to complete graduate school focusing on international affairs and then pursue a career in public service.

Why did you join: I have the desire and capability to help others and our environment because I feel like it helps perpetuate positive change; AmeriCorps initiative allows me to do just that.
Future plans: My goals for the future are a career in writing as well as a career in humanitarian work. I love cooking, and I’d love to find a way to feed the homeless restaurant style as opposed to just shelters

Why did you join: Community service was a huge part of my college experience; the more involved I became, the quicker I realized that service taught me more about life and about myself than I could learn in a classroom. AmeriCorps gives me the opportunity to work and to learn alongside others in a service atmosphere every day.
Future plans: I’d like to go to grad school after my term with AmeriCorps and pursue a career in humanitarian assistance and disaster response.
Hobbies: I love to cook, and I love to sing – and I often sing while I cook. Soccer is a central part of my life, and I’ll settle for any other excuse to be outside…or to snuggle up with a book.

Why did you join: I want to give back to my community because I am so grateful for the privileges I am endowed with. I believe service is an act of citizenship and a fundamental human responsibility.
Future plans: I would love to eventually be accepted into a Master’s of Social Work program with a focus on mental health. My dream career would integrate outdoor adventure with the therapeutic experience.

Why did you join: My prior experiences with service work and the great outdoors have always brought me immense joy. The ERT seems like the perfect way to combine these two interests, while also providing an opportunity to work alongside some great team members.
Future plans: My future plans are very much up in the air…I hope to finish hiking the Appalachian Trail…find other service jobs down the road…maybe ride a tandem bicycle one day…

Why did you join: I believe the urge to pitch in and help out lives in everyone. That’s called good will. AmeriCorps St. Louis seemed to me to be the ideal opportunity to fulfill that need at the same time as gaining practical skills and experience in a field I’m interested in.
Future plans: To obtain a Master’s degree; to continue helping others; to become an all-around handyman, fixer-upper, DIYer; and to become a legendary, corny country-folk singer-songwriter.

Why did you join: After graduating high school 5 months early, I took a spot in a 25 member Corps with the SCA AmeriCorps in MA. After 5 months of conservation work and a whole year left during my “gap year” between high school and college — I wanted to continue serving. Helping people and working with others towards a greater good is not only for others but our whole country — what could be better?
Future plans: I would like to get my Bachelor’s in Environmental Education so I can teach children with disabilities and bring the outdoors to them.

Why did you join: I want to serve to better the livelihoods of members in every type of community. I wanted to serve with diverse people to broaden horizons I would never had been exposed to otherwise.
Future plans: Peace Corps is an option after 1-2 years in STL. I would then like to attend graduate school in the field of conservation biology. I would like to eventually have a career in international wildlife conservation.
