Junior Board of Directors

The AmeriCorps St. Louis Junior Board of Directors is a dedicated group of young professionals who volunteer their time, talents and energies to help us widen our reach in the community. Junior Board members use their social and business networks to raise funds to support our programs and to create events and opportunities that rally the community around our service.

AmeriCorps St. Louis Jr. Board Member Elizabeth Simons

Elizabeth Simons – President

Serving since: 4/2009

Elizabeth served with AmeriCorps St. Louis as a middle school mentor in 2005-06. She is also an alumna of the AmeriCorps program City Year in South Carolina. She graduated with a degree in Urban Affairs from Saint Louis University in 2009. Elizabeth manages an active living and healthy eating initiative in local government. She also serves as Advocacy Chair of the St. Louis Chapter of AmeriCorps Alums.

AmeriCorps St. Louis Jr. Board Member Jeremy Brok

Jeremy Brok – Secretary

Serving since: 2/2011

Jeremy is excited for the opportunity to support an organization that has already given him so much. As a former Member of both its Emergency Response Team and staff, Jeremy is well acquainted with AmeriCorps St. Louis and believes in its mission and value to the community. Currently working in Saint Louis University’s Communication Department as its Communication Media Center Coordinator, Jeremy still feels incredibly invested in the nonprofit’s sustained success. He views any way to support AmeriCorps St. Louis and its Members as a kind of service and means to better the local community if not the entire national community. As long as there is a need for service, there is a need for AmeriCorps St. Louis.

AmeriCorps St. Louis Jr. Board Member Patrick Brown

Patrick Brown

Serving since: 2/2011

Patrick serves as Special Assistant to Mayor Francis G. Slay in the City of St. Louis. He graduated with a degree in Political Science from St. Louis University in 2009. Patrick is a city resident, born and raised in Saint Louis. He serves as a member of the City’s Planning Commission, the Urban League Young Professionals, the Mayor’s Vanguard Cabinet and various other boards and committees.

AmeriCorps St Louis Jr Board Zen Harbison

Zen Harbison

Serving since: 1/2006

Zen is an AmeriCorps St. Louis Alumni, years 9 and 10, having served in the education program at Bryan Hill Elementary School. Previously a Software Developer and Internet Marketing professional, he is now a dedicated part time student and professional tutor for St. Louis Public Schools and his community. Zen is working retail and managing his own building and business where he does desktop publishing and print design work, computer: analysis, design, development, Internet, marketing, and maintenance. He roller skates or dances for exercise, plays the Harp for musical therapy and regularly tours museums and gardens to relax.

AmeriCorps St. Louis Junior Board Joe Jovanovich

Joe Jovanovich – Vice President

Serving since: 1/2009

Joe is a St. Louis native and studied at Webster University (BA ’04) and Washington University (MSW, ’10). Joe was an AmeriCorps Member for two years with City Year in Chicago. He currently serves as the President of the St. Louis Chapter of AmeriCorps Alums, which he helped found in early 2009. Since April 2010, Joe has worked for Beyond Housing, a local community development non-profit. Joe has a strong interest in national service policy and advocacy and he is excited for efforts to build public awareness about the positive impact of programs like AmeriCorps St. Louis.

AmeriCorps St. Louis Jr. Board Member Nicole Landwehr

Nicole Truschel

Serving since: 2/2011

Nicole is a St. Louis native and AmeriCorps St. Louis Alum, having served on the Education Team years 14 and 15. She is currently working towards her BSW at UMSL and works for the St. Louis Arc as an Assistant Support Manager in a group home supporting adults with developmental disabilities. She enjoys drinking coffee, listening to NPR, reading, and knitting.

AmeriCorps St Louis Junior Board Theresa Saucier

Theresa Saucier

Serving since: 2/2011

Theresa moved back to St. Louis after finishing her bachelor’s degree at Marquette University to serve as an ACSTL member. She served with the program for two years and then began working at a treatment facility for adolescent foster children. Theresa remains working at the adolescent treatment facility, in addition to studying for her MSW and completing internships with the Family Care Health Centers and John Cochran Division of the St. Louis VA Medical Center. In her limited free time, she likes to root for the St. Louis Blues, see shows at the Muny and test new recipes in the kitchen. Theresa is excited to be supporting the mission of AmeriCorps St. Louis!

AmeriCorps St. Louis Jr. Board Member Jimmy Truschel

Jimmy Truschel – Marketing Liaison

Serving since: 2/2011

Jimmy is originally from Pittsburgh, PA and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in marketing. He moved to St. Louis to join AmeriCorps St. Louis and served two years on the AmeriCorps St. Louis Emergency Response Team. He currently works for US Bank and will be pursuing his MBA in the fall of 2011. Jimmy also currently serves as a volunteer disaster case manager for the United Way and St. Louis Area Long Term Recovery Committee.
